These three pictures capture the essence of who Syd is.

In the first she is in the ocean right after the Honolulu Marathon. She ran over a dozen of them  and loved every minute of having a goal and pursuing it. Here she is enjoying a margarita right  after the finish.

The second picture is her calendar board. She had reached a point where her short term  memory was shot. I love that it starts with “water plants daily.” She wanted to keep all of  Spencer’s plants and flowers alive.

The Apple Watch comment was because she was tracking her steps. She went from not walking  in March to walking a 4 mile Kaiwi Coast Walk in November.

The third picture is her goal board. Both boards were in our living room where she could see  them from our couch. This was important because of the short term memory thing.

She was continuing to walk. She had come back to CrossFit three weeks ago and was doing  the movements with a PVC pipe to get range of motion back. She was pumped to be there.

She truly believes: “Where the mind goes the body follows.” She has lived it.

She is still here and this final chapter is both painful and beautiful. I can not tell you how touched  our family is. We are an extremely small family and yet the circle of her extended family is  immense. The hospice facility said they have never seen anything like it and yet we live in a  state with huge families.

Many thanks to the team of people keeping Spencer, Carolyn, Rascal and I afloat.
